New For 2013: Music Man JP13 John Petrucci Signature Guitar
10As with every year, musical instrument manufacturers go above and beyond to bring the latest and greatest instruments to the shelves of eager consumers, like myself. Music corporation Ernie Ball doesn’t lag behind; it’s successful Music Man branch of quality USA-made guitars and basses has taken the world by storm, and they wouldn’t have been able to do it without successful artists like John Petrucci.
Rolling into 2013, Music Man has yet again teamed up with Petrucci to continue making improvements to his already popular signature line of guitars. This year, however, instead of the usual neck and body adjustments, they are doing something that’s brand new to the series: putting an on-board preamp inside the guitar to deliver a gain boost right from your fingers. If that isn’t enough to make you all giddy, then check out the image above for the rest of the improvements. Finally a JP model that stands apart from the regular axes we are used to!

Is the back of the neck all finished in the silver color?
That’s a good question, I’m not sure. Seems like all of his previous models I have seen are natural, roasted or black. Might want to ask MM directly.
I just spoke with a friend that was visiting NAMM. He confirmed the back of the neck to be black as with the back of the body. I’ll let you know if that changes.
Ok, thanks for the update. I’d prefer it to be the natural wood color or all silver. I can call MM tomorrow to confirm and will let you know.

Musicman site put up the JP13

It looks like the neck is all silver. I kinda like the JP6 in sterling silver with the birds eye maple neck a little better. Problem is that most stores don’t offer the JP6 in sterling silver but maybe it will come back because of the JP13.
Do you know when the JP13 goes on sale?
Yeah, that’s where I got the graphic from. The guitar doesn’t have the BFR inlay either, which is weird. Although not completely sure, I think they are already taking orders for it. The rumor mill says they might not be out in stores until Q2. Again, don’t quote me. I am pretty much in the dark just like everybody else haha.
Ohhh.. i wish it would go on sale a lot sooner. If I had the choice to customize it, i’d want ebony fretboard with the nice logo on the 12th fret. The new 13 inlay is pretty cool.
